Happy New Year – Bakealong Challenge # 5 – Butter-Pecan Kringle

by | Dec 31, 2016 | Uncategorized

Happy New Year’s Eve Ya’ll! I cannot believe that 2016 is coming to a close today. Which also means today is the last day of the December Bakealong Challenge. I have never had a kringle before and have many traditional things I make and bake so this kept getting pushed off. Then I realized that my in-laws were doing a big breakfast today and given that a kringle is a danish pastry I figured today was the perfect time for this challenge.

Here is the recipe if you would like to make one too: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/the-easiest-butter-pecan-kringle-ever-recipe

The first thing was to preheat the oven and find a big cookie sheet that fits into it. Parchment paper is your friend when dealing with sticky things so I covered the pan with it. After that I made the sticky dough for the base and with wet hands formed the ring on the covered pan. After I flattened the ring into something that resembled a race track it dawned on me that I should be taking pictures. Shiny objects are very distracting…

Oh and do not forget to take out the eggs early like I did because they are supposed to room temp. I finally got to use some of my eggs from the chickens (hubby tends to eat them all).

Next step is the filling batter as they call it which you completely cover the base dough with so it looks like this:

Into the oven it goes for almost an hour till nice deep golden brown. It rose some during the baking, check it out:

Once done it needs to cool completely on the pan –  it is so pretty with the fun crackly look

Next step was to set some roasted pecans next to you to sprinkle on the hot caramel, but I failed to roast pecans and was not in the mood to do so. My solution….pull out my holiday cinnamon sugar roasted pecans!

We microwaved some caramel to drizzle on top and then pressed my pecans into the hot caramel. Or at least it was supposed to still be hot – lesson learned do this very quickly! Yes, I did leave pecans off one section and not because it would not stick, but because hubby is picky and not a fan of nuts 😉

After that sets make a simple vanilla glaze to drizzle over it all for the finishing touch

Isn’t it beautiful? Or at least delish looking! Now for slicing and eating. The cinnamon sugar pecans added an awesome extra depth of flavor that reminded me of the holidays so it fit right in. The in-laws and hubby enjoyed the addition to breakfast too.

What do you think? If you make it what tweaks did you make? Hope you have a wonderful New Year as well!
